Experience and Background

Sally specialises in advising charities and not-for-profit organisations in relation to their legal and regulatory affairs.  She has broad experience in charity matters, gained over many years in both private practice and charity in-house roles. Sally is experienced in constituting and registering charitable entities of all kinds.  In addition, she has a particular interest in charity governance, supporting clients with board development, preparing and advising on policy documents, recommending improvements to governance procedures and advising on and implementing restructuring.  She is also experienced at assisting with complex registration issues and charity disputes. 

Sally holds the Chartered Governance Institute Certificate in Charity Law and Governance and is a member of the Charity Law Association. 

Sally’s recent experience has included:

  • At Wellers Law Group LLP advising charities, not-for-profit enterprises and town and parish councils on charity registrations, mergers and closures together with a broad range of charity law and compliance issues.
  • As the Legal Manager at ExtraCare Charitable Trust drafting a range of the charity’s contracts and policies and supporting its Board meetings.
  • Working with Stepping Stones (Luton) (as a trustee) with a particular focus on improvements to governance and compliance.
  • Working on the implementation of a governance framework at the Papworth Trust.

Her previous experience has included approximately 12 years working in-house as Group Legal Counsel and Company Secretary in UK listed companies in the IT and financial sectors.
