At Howes Percival, corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) is an important value and something we are keen to support. In the Leicester office, as well as our commitment to various pro bono projects including working with children in local schools to improve their reading, numeracy and interviewing skills, we also have a dedicated charity of the year. For 2018, after a democratic vote, MNDA (Motor Neuron Disease Association) was chosen as our office charity of the year.
To date there is no cure for this debilitating illness; it is a progressive disease causing degeneration of the body’s nervous system and muscle wastage. Sadly this disease has affected many of our colleagues’ friends and family. MNDA funds research but also gives day to day care and support for those living with the illness.
The Leicester office charity team have set themselves a target to raise over £5,000 for MNDA. So far, colleagues have given up alcohol and sugar for lent (which was a particularly tense time in the office), have taken part in an office “Come Lunch with Me” competition to ascertain the master chefs of the office, and held a cheese and wine tasting event.
We will be holding a family fun day and have committed to running the Leicester half-marathon in October, all to raise money for MNDA. Some of the team who are running the half-marathon currently struggle to run further than 3km, so there is a lot of training to be done, but we are confident that our staff will rise to the challenge.
