Howes Percival’s Northampton office has raised over £8,000 for its Charity of the Year 2021/2022, The Trussell Trust.
The Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
In the UK, more than 14 million people are living below the poverty line. The Trussell Trust supports more than 1,200 food bank centres in the UK to provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis, as well as support to help people resolve the crises they face.
The money was raised through a series of fundraising activities including sweepstakes, lunch events, and the donation of all profits from the office tuck shop. The office rounded off the year with its annual festive quiz (a firm fixture on the Northampton business calendar) and the office Christmas jumper competition. The final amount raised by staff was matched by the firm.
Howes Percival legal director, and chair of the office’s charity committee, Jenna Bruce, commented,
“We have been delighted to raise such a significant amount of money to support the Trussell Trust, particularly during a year where the charity reported that its network had distributed over 2.1 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis in the UK in the year to 31 March 2022. The office has, once again, come together to support this hugely important cause.”
Ida Taseva, Community & Events Fundraising Coordinator at The Trussell Trust commented,
“With rising living costs and energy prices at record highs, many people are facing impossible decisions this winter, like whether to cook hot food or switch on the heating. But ultimately, no one in the UK should need a food bank — all of us should have enough money for the essentials like food, clothing and heating. The support of Howes Percival will help food banks within our network continue to provide that lifeline of emergency support, while we work together in the long term to ensure everyone can afford the essentials, like food.”
