Howes Percival’s East Midlands Employment and HR team have been shortlisted for the ‘Human Resources: Firm (outside London) of the Year’ in the prestigious Legal 500 UK Awards 2020.
The Legal 500 Awards 2020 recognise and reward the best in-house and private practice teams and individuals over the past 12 months. The awards are handed to the elite legal practitioners, based on the most comprehensive research into the UK legal market. The Legal 500 conducted over 70,000 interviews to ascertain the winners, who will be invited to a dinner in London in February 2020, to celebrate with their peers.
Howes Percival is the only East Midlands Employment law team shortlisted in the Human Resources: Firm (outside London) of the Year category.
Commenting on the shortlisting, Paula Bailey, Partner and Head of employment law at Howes Percival said,
“It’s a real honour to be shortlisted, the Legal 500 awards are completely independent - with shortlisted firms recommended purely on merit. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the team for all their hard work and dedication and to thank our clients for their support. Our nomination for this award not only recognises the excellent work of our lawyers but confirms our position as one of the very best HR legal teams in the East Midlands.
“2019 has been a tremendously busy year and we’ve expanded our team to deal with an increasing workload. We’re dealing with a notable increase in Employment Tribunals on behalf of clients. Claims have been on the rise since 2017 when fees were abolished. We have also seen an increase in instructions concerned with the management of mental health issues in the workplace and in relation to restrictive covenant disputes. In light of the #MeToo movement, we’ve been instructed on a growing number of sexual harassment cases.
“Brexit and economic uncertainty are also giving rise to a host of employment law work. And, we expect employment law to remain high on companies’ agendas in the next few months as they prepare for important changes to statements of terms and conditions, the IR35 legislation in the private sector and agency workers' rights, which will apply from 6th April 2020.”
The Legal 500 is widely regarded as the most authoritative guide to the UK’s leading law firms, and recommends firms and lawyers based on independent research, interviews and client feedback. The 2020 edition was revealed in October and Howes Percival’s East Midland’s Employment team was ranked in Tier 1 – the highest category - with the firm’s Paula Bailey and Graham Irons two of just three East Midlands Leading Individuals listed in The Legal 500 Hall of Fame for Employment Law.
