Howes Percival welcomes eight new trainees and its first solicitor apprentice
27th October, 2021
Howes Percival has welcomed eight new trainee solicitors to the firm and has appointed its first solicitor apprentice. It has also appointed four new solicitors who have recently completed their training contracts with the firm.
The trainees were selected following a rigorous recruitment process which included an online application, and virtual assessment centre which involved an interview, a presentation, and several tests.
During the two-year training contract, the trainee solicitors complete four six-month seats, each one in a different department to experience different areas of the law. To get a good feel for Howes Percival as a whole, trainees are encouraged to gain experience in different office locations and are also helped to develop their business development and marketing skills.
The new intake join six current trainees who have completed the first year of their training contract.
Solicitor apprentice
Charis Skipper has joined Howes Percival as the firm’s first solicitor apprentice, training to become a qualified lawyer through a combination of hands-on experience and academic study.
Newly qualified solicitors
Following the successful completion of their training contracts with Howes Percival, four newly qualified solicitors have decided to develop their careers with the firm.
Helaina Mann and Jessica Resende have chosen to specialise in corporate, commercial and banking matters; Beth Boucher has been appointed to the planning law team; and Fleur Chapman has been appointed to the commercial property department.
Howes Percival Partner and Training Principal, Simon Murphy commented,
“We are delighted to welcome our new trainees to the firm. The Howes Percival training contract is highly regarded and preparing the next generation of lawyers is essential to the future of our business. Our current trainees and newly qualified solicitors have had to train under extraordinary circumstances through the pandemic and they have done a brilliant job throughout. We would like to congratulate all of them on their qualification and we are delighted that Helaina, Jessica, Beth and Fleur have decided to continue their career with us.
As our people return to office working on a flexible basis, we are pleased that our trainees are now able to work alongside their colleagues in person and get an even more rounded experience. We like our trainees to get stuck in, work as part of the team and get involved in quality work, which gives them the best possible start to their legal career.”
“In recent years, the legal profession has undergone considerable change to become more flexible, open and inclusive. There are now a variety of routes into the profession which helps to ensure that we can continue to recruit from a wide and diverse pool of talent and reduce barriers to entry. We’re excited to welcome our first solicitor apprentice and we hope that this could become a route into the practice for more people in future.”
Howes Percival is a winner in two categories in the LEX 100 - a comprehensive guide to training contracts at the UK’s top law firms (2021/22 edition).
