Howes Percival has been ranked in The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list for the first time.
The Sunday Times ‘Best Companies’ list celebrates excellence in workplace engagement and is widely acknowledged as the most searching and extensive research into employee engagement carried out in the UK.
Lists are compiled based on employee opinions on how the company; supports wellbeing in the workplace, gives something back to society, shows strong leadership and teaming, provides opportunities for personal growth, and offers fair pay and benefits. Only the organisations with the highest level of overall employee engagement qualify for the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list.
The prestigious list was revealed at an awards dinner at Battersea Evolution in London where Howes Percival were confirmed in 65th position in the top 100. The firm achieved a 2 star Best Companies accreditation, which is given to organisations with an ‘outstanding’ commitment to workplace engagement.
Howes Percival is a rapidly growing firm, with just under 300 staff across six offices. The firm anticipates that by May 2020 it will have achieved its target set in 2014 to increase turnover from £15m to £25m.
The firm provides a full-service legal offering to corporate and private clients. Clients include Government departments, international brands and household names such as Welcome Break, Microsoft and FTSE listed pub operator Marston’s. Howes Percival also maintains a strong core client base of SMEs and family-owned businesses, plus high net worth individuals.
Howes Percival’s Chairman, Tessa Haskey, commented,
“We’re extremely proud to be included in the 100 Best Companies to Work For 2020 list. Although, it is something we’ve all believed for a long time, it feels great to be able to say we are officially ‘a great place to work’! It is an award that feels extra special because it’s a direct result of feedback from our people. It’s an endorsement of the supportive, open culture we aim to foster. We want all our staff to share the firm’s strategic aims, understand the part they play in the overall picture and, feel valued, supported and rewarded.
“We’ve always focused on nurturing and developing our people, and every year when I look at our senior promotions and partner appointments, I see people that started out as trainees with us, which is fantastic. While we have a bonus scheme which applies to all employees, enabling them to participate in the profitability of the firm, we don’t just focus on providing financial rewards. We have invested a great deal in our wellbeing strategy to help ensure staff have a healthy work/life balance. As part of a competitive benefits package, we have developed a range of family-friendly working practices and health and well-being benefits, which can make a big difference to the day to day experience for team members.”
Tessa continued,
“We now have half a dozen offices connected across the East Midlands, East Anglia and the North West, and a core part of our success with our clients is our ability to work collaboratively across teams and provide clear, practical advice. But it also means our staff, at all levels, have opportunities to get involved in far more varied cases and projects.
“We also have several different forums for staff to get together – both physically and virtually – to engage, air their views and ideas, and have fun. That includes being active members of the communities in which we work. We support and encourage our staff to volunteer and get involved with charities and each of our offices has a nominated charity of the year.”
