To celebrate 20 years in Leicester, leading regional law firm Howes Percival has announced that staff will take part in a year-long series of fundraising and volunteering events in support of three local charities: Alex’s Wish, Leicestershire Cares and Action Homeless.
Twenty years ago, in July 1997, Howes Percival opened its first Leicester office on New Walk with just six lawyers. Today the firm employs over 60 staff at its Meridian Business Park office, providing the full range of corporate and family law services.
The celebrations got off to a flying start when 12 brave members of staff took part in the Skyline Zip Wire Challenge in Victoria Park - descending a 200m Zip Wire at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour to raise money for the charity Alex’s Wish.
The charity funds research and clinical trials with the aim of finding a cure or new treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It is named after Alex Hallam, who was diagnosed with Duchenne when he was just 4 years old. It was established by his parents, who work tirelessly to provide the best possible future for Alex and other boys with the condition.
Other fundraising and volunteering activities so far confirmed for the year include three community events with Leicestershire Cares, a not-for-profit organisation which helps businesses to find volunteering opportunities to support charities and community groups in Leicestershire and Rutland. Howes Percival will also hold a Christmas Quiz, the proceeds of which will go to Action Homeless, a Leicester based charity and social enterprise committed to improving the lives of people affected by homelessness.

The office has been at the heart of the Leicester business community throughout that time, but we’ve also maintained strong connections to the local not-for-profit sector, supporting a wide range of good causes. We spoke to staff about the anniversary and the feeling was that, while it was a chance to celebrate our time in the city, it was also an opportunity to give something back.
“We decided on a year-long fundraising and volunteering campaign to give us a chance to support a number of different causes and find different ways to get everyone involved. The Skyline Zip Wire Challenge was a fantastic way to launch the campaign and I’d like to extend a big thank you to our intrepid staff who took part. I’m also extremely grateful to everyone – families, friends and clients – for their generosity in sponsoring the team.”
