Howes Percival has advised homelessness charity Emmaus Gloucestershire on the purchase of a new shop to expand its social enterprise, generating more income to support people out of homelessness and providing additional work experience opportunities for those it helps.
The acquisition of the shop in the Bath Road area of Cheltenham for Emmaus Gloucestershire, sees the charity return to Cheltenham after closing its previous shop on Henrietta Street in 2021. It will be the fifth shop run by Emmaus Gloucestershire, helping to fund its vital work supporting formerly homeless people with a home, tailored support, training and meaningful work experience.
The shop, which was formally a NatWest building, will officially open after refurbishment on Tuesday 1 October and will focus on sustainability and reuse, with all display fixtures created from second-hand donations, or DIY, and a range of pre-loved furniture, homewares, electricals, clothing, accessories, and upcycled pieces on offer.
Howes Percival Director Gary Pitt and Commercial Property expert Kiran Vohra supported Emmaus Gloucestershire during the acquisition, including full due diligence on the premises. DLA Piper acted for NatWest.
Howes Percival’s Gary Pitt commented,
Emmaus Gloucestershire is a fantastic organisation, and we were delighted to support them on the purchase of the premises. We specialise in the purchase of commercial premises tailored to client’s specific requirements, and I’m sure the new shop will be a valuable addition to their network.
Lorraine Watson, Operations Manager at Emmaus Gloucestershire, said:
We’re incredibly grateful to Howes Percival for their support in securing this new shop, which will be a vital part of our efforts to help people out of homelessness. The new location will allow us to provide even more work experience opportunities, and the income generated will enable us to continue offering tailored support to those who need it most. This new venture marks an exciting chapter for Emmaus Gloucestershire, and we look forward to welcoming customers into our Cheltenham shop.
Howes Percival opened its newest regional office in Oxford in January 2024, following the acquisition of Oxford based specialist commercial, IP & media law firm Maier Blackburn, who act for high-profile clients based in the UK, Europe and the US, including the Tolkien Estate.
