The application deadline for our Vacation Scheme is fast approaching so log on and apply before 31 March 2016! Most of the current trainees completed a vacation scheme at the firm so it really is worthwhile applying now if you are considering a training contract here. This is your opportunity both to get to know us better and to show us your potential as a future trainee of the firm.
Remember that the online application system gives you the choice to apply for the vacation scheme and your training contract in one application form so it's even more important to get it right. As trainees, we know applications can be tough. We have come up with a few ideas to help you when applying:
- Submit your application as soon as possible. We have already started reviewing applications so the earlier we receive yours, the better chances you have!
- Check, double check and then check again! An important skill for any lawyer is attention to detail. Make sure that your application doesn’t end up on the “no” pile as a result of a silly spelling mistake.
- Think carefully about why you want to be a lawyer. What evidence or experience have you had in order to come to that conclusion? If you haven't yet completed a vacation scheme, consider getting some informal experience or volunteering at your university legal advice clinic.
- Don't discount your part time or holiday jobs. These can provide valuable examples of responsibility and key skills that you may have, such as organisational skills and commercial awareness.
- Consider why you are different from others and back it up with examples. It's better to say less about yourself but explain your reasons well rather than lots about yourself with little justification.
- Lawyers must be good communicators, have excellent client care skills, be organised and must be able to work well under pressure. Consider what activities you do or have done to demonstrate those skills and include these in your application.
- When you get to interview, be yourself. The firm is ultimately looking for interesting people who are able to get along with others so let your personality shine through. Rest assured that our recruitment team are not dragons and they're not looking to trip you up!
Good luck and we hope to be seeing you for a week this summer!
