I am now four months in to my second seat in the firm’s newest office in Cambridge. My second seat consists of a joint seat in Commercial Property and Company Commercial, and so, whilst the Commercial Property seat is a completely new (and slightly daunting) department to me, I am also able to build on the knowledge I learnt in my first seat in the Company Commercial department in Northampton.
The Cambridge office has been an exciting place to be during my first few of months in my new seat. Whilst the Cambridge office only opened little more than a year ago, it has quickly established itself in the Cambridge market and because of the acquisition of part of Taylor Vinters’ real estate business in November 2015; the team has expanded a lot quicker than expected. As a result of this expansion, we recently moved into bigger offices in April (albeit the new office is on the opposite side of the road to our new office!) The new office looks fantastic and is really something to be proud of; so I feel lucky to have been completing a seat in Cambridge during this exciting transitional period!
Besides working in the office, trainees are encouraged to get involved with Business Development and networking opportunities. As a young professional, Cambridge is a really great place to be and there are plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with other young professionals such as accountants, surveyors and bankers. I’ve attended a variety of events during the past two months such as a charity quiz, champagne tasting and a rugby match and lunch. I am particularly looking forward to attending future events in Cambridge such as punting down the river, as this is one of the best parts of doing a seat in Cambridge during the summer months!
Interestingly, there are also networking events that are held solely for women such as Women in the Property Industry and Cambridge Girls Networking. At these events there is a really great atmosphere and definitely a slight feeling of girl power! I was really impressed that Howes Percival has been involved in promoting such events, and during my first few weeks here, the firm co-hosted a drinks and nibbles event for Women in the Property Industry at Metro Bank. Due to a great reaction from attendees to the idea of events especially for Women in the Property Industry, we have started planning our next event…gin tasting! Safe to say I’m sure it will be another success!
